Your Weekend Is Your Real Fitness Test

As we head deeper into summer, I want to challenge you to think about fitness a little differently.

Recently, I was reminded of one of my favorite quotes from strength coach Dan John:

"The goal isn't to exercise. The goal is to keep the goal the goal."

That simple sentence captures everything we believe at Forever Young Studios.

Exercise isn't the goal.

The goal is living the life you want to live.

Most people believe their fitness is measured by what happens in the gym.

I don't.

I think your weekend is your real fitness test.

Can you spend the afternoon hiking without your back tightening up?

Can you play volleyball at the beach and still have energy afterward?

Can you carry a kayak to the water, load luggage into the car, work in the garden, chase your kids or grandkids around the yard, or help a friend move without wondering if your body can handle it?

Those moments don't happen under perfect conditions.

They happen in real life.

And that's what we train for.

At Forever Young Studios, the goal has never been to leave every workout completely exhausted. The goal is to build a body that's ready to say "yes" when life gives you an opportunity.

That's one of the reasons we created the Lionheart Program.

During the summer, we intentionally shift our focus. We continue building and maintaining strength, but we also leave enough energy in the tank for bike rides, camping trips, vacations, pickleball, paddleboarding, yard projects, family gatherings, and all the adventures that make this season so special.

Because what's the point of getting stronger if you're too tired, sore, or beat up to enjoy the life you're working so hard to build?

Research supports this approach. Studies consistently show that maintaining strength and staying physically active throughout the week improves mobility, preserves independence, reduces the risk of injury, and enhances overall quality of life as we age. The gym is where we prepare our bodies. Life is where we put that preparation to work.

So this weekend, don't just think about your workout.

Think about your life.

Go for the hike.

Take the bike ride.

Throw the football.

Play with your kids.

Work in the garden.

Say yes to the adventure.

Because your workout isn't the finish line.

It's the preparation.

Train for the life you want to live.
