How Not to Lose a Foot (or Two)
If you know me, you know I’m not the type to focus on the negative side of health. Most of the time, I talk about the positive, life-changing benefits of a healthy lifestyle, proper sleep, good nutrition, exercise, and strong community.
And I believe in that approach.
But lately, I’ve been feeling like some people just aren’t hearing it.
Sometimes, no amount of positive encouragement is enough to spark change, not until it’s too late.
So I’ve been thinking about a different approach…
Something inspired by the show Scared Straight.
Let’s call this:
Scared Straight, The Health Edition.
A friend of mine, Linda, Director of Physical Therapy at Corewell Health, often speaks at health seminars. She recently shared some slides with me that completely reinforced what we stand for at Forever Young Studios.
Here’s what stood out:
60% of U.S. adults have at least one chronic disease
40% have two or more
We’re talking about conditions like cancer, obesity, hypertension, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and more.
Even more alarming:
Nearly 40% of premature deaths are caused by lifestyle factors, tobacco use, alcohol use, poor diet, and lack of physical activity
Stop for a second and really take that in.
These aren’t rare cases.
This is the norm.
So today, I want to focus on just one topic:
How Not to Lose a Foot (or Two)
From 2010 to 2020, it’s estimated that over 1 million people with diabetes undergo lower limb amputations worldwide every year.
In the United States alone, about 154,000 to 160,000 people with diabetes have amputations annually.
Let that sink in.
This is the part where I want to shake people and say:
Move your body.
Lift heavy things.
Eat real food.
Turn off your screens earlier.
Get quality sleep.
Find people to laugh, move, and live life with.
Not because it sounds good.
Because it matters.
I know this can feel overwhelming.
But you can do hard things.
Humans are incredibly adaptable. We become what we repeatedly do.
So the real question is:
Are you adapting to habits that lead to decline…
Or habits that lead to strength, energy, and a life you’re proud of?
At Forever Young Studios, we don’t chase fads.
We focus on what works:
Strength training
Cardiovascular health
Proper recovery
Real nutrition
And most importantly, community
Because no one does this alone.
If you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or unsure where to start, I’m here.
The Forever Young Studios community is here.
The DRY Sober Social community is here.
This is why I do what I do, to help people live stronger, longer, better lives.
